The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has condemned the recent distribution formula for the N50 billion earned allowance approved by the Federal Government.
The JAC expressed deep disappointment and outrage over the allocation, describing it as “grossly unfair” and “totally unacceptable”. According to reports, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to receive 80% of the funds, leaving only 20% for SSANU, NASU, and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) to share.
Speaking with journalists University of Ibadan SSANU vice chairman and NASU chairman express dismay with the inability of the Federal Government to obey agreed memorandum of understanding between the union and government for over 16 years.
The unions vowed to stand united in demanding justice, fairness, and recognition of their rightful place in the university community. They warned that going ahead with the unfair distribution will breed resentment and trigger widespread industrial disharmony.
The protesting unions demands an immediate review of the allocation formula to ensure fairness and equity among all university staff unions. The unions are determined to negotiate a better deal and protect the rights of their members.
