Kano Pillars FC have condemned the violent scenes that marred Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter against Shooting Stars at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
In an official statement, the club described the incident which erupted shortly after the final whistle as the actions of “a few misguided persons” who attempted to disrupt order within the stadium premises.
According to the club, the situation was swiftly contained through the prompt intervention of match stewards and security personnel.
“We are pleased to confirm that players of both teams and match officials all left the stadium and its vicinity unhurt and safely escorted by the security operatives,” the statement read.
Kano Pillars’ General Manager, Ahmed Musa (MON), who was present on the touchline before the unrest began, confirmed that several culprits had already been arrested and handed over to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
“Kano Pillars FC will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure that any individual found culpable faces the full wrath of the law,” the club added.
In a decisive move, the club also announced that identified troublemakers would be banned from the Sani Abacha Stadium for the next ten seasons as part of its zero-tolerance policy towards violence.
The management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, discipline, and a conducive atmosphere for football in accordance with NPFL and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regulations.
“The club remains committed to maintaining peace, discipline, and a conducive environment for football,” the statement concluded.
Sunday’s ugly scenes followed Shooting Stars’ dramatic 94th-minute equaliser that earned a 1–1 draw, sparking chaos as irate home fans invaded the pitch, chasing the referee and opposing players.
