The Lagos State Taskforce has debunked a viral video circulating online in which a woman, who identified herself as Oneway, a resident of 6th Avenue, Ifanyi Close, Festac Town, alleged that her husband and others were unjustly arrested by Taskforce officers during a demolition exercise conducted by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Agency described the claims as false and misleading, stating that the arrests were made after Taskforce officers were violently attacked by individuals attempting to obstruct the lawful demolition of illegal structures on FHA property.
According to the statement, the woman’s husband led a group that launched an assault on Taskforce officials using stones, iron rods, and other dangerous objects after an unsuccessful attempt to bribe the demolition team to stop the exercise. The Agency confirmed that normalcy was quickly restored following the arrests.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, warned against obstructing law enforcement officers in the discharge of their duties, emphasizing that such actions constitute a serious offence.
“The Lagos State Taskforce will continue to ensure strict compliance to safeguard lives, prevent violent protests, and maintain order during enforcement-for-compliance activities. While such operations may not always appear public-friendly, they remain essential to uphold sanity and law across the State,” Akerele stated.
The Agency also urged any member of the public who feels aggrieved by the conduct of its officers to come forward with credible evidence, assuring that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken where wrongdoing is established.
It therefore advised the public to disregard false narratives aimed at misleading citizens and stirring unnecessary sentiments, reaffirming its commitment to rid Lagos of lawlessness and criminality while maintaining professionalism and civility in its operations.
