In a renewed show of commitment to inclusive governance and social welfare, the Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, Hon. Akindipe Olalekan, has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to prioritize the well-being of the elderly, widows, and other vulnerable residents.
Hon. Akindipe made this known on Tuesday during an empowerment programme held at the council secretariat, where 1,500 aged persons and widows received food palliatives and cash support.
The initiative, he explained, was designed to cushion the impact of the fuel subsidy removal and fulfill his campaign promise to uplift the less privileged in the community.
“As part of my promise during the campaign, I pledged to take care of the old, the needy, and the widows. These groups deserve our attention, especially in these hard times,” he said. “While we continue to build roads, provide transformers, and improve social amenities, we must not forget those who cannot work due to age or circumstance.”
The council boss noted that widows, in particular, shoulder immense family responsibilities and deserve special attention to ease their burdens.

“The importance of today’s programme is rooted in my campaign’s pledge to take care of the elderly, the needy, and widows,” Akindipe said. “Cushioning the hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal remains one of our top priorities. While we focus on infrastructure building roads, providing transformers, and improving amenities we must also care for those who can no longer work.”
According to him, the empowerment initiative aligns with the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to mitigate the effects of current economic realities on citizens.
“I am following their example by extending similar support to my people at the grassroots level,” he added.
Speaking further on his administration’s developmental agenda, Hon. Akindipe disclosed that his first 100 days in office would be marked by a series of impactful projects, including community electrification, road rehabilitation, traders’ empowerment, student support, and youth development through SME initiatives.
“My 100 days in office will speak louder than words. We’re providing transformers, completing road projects, and rolling out empowerment packages for traders, women, students, and youths. The Speaker and our people will be proud of what we’re achieving at the grassroots,” he assured.
The chairman also highlighted his administration’s efforts in strengthening local security, revealing that vigilante groups have been integrated into the council’s security framework to maintain peace and safety across communities.
“Ajegunle used to be known for violence, but today, peace reigns. We’ve established a strong security committee, and our people can now sleep with their eyes closed,” he said.
