Raila Odinga, a towering figure in Kenyan politics and former Prime Minister, has died at the age of 80. He passed away on Wednesday while receiving medical treatment in India.
Reports about Odinga’s deteriorating health had circulated in recent weeks, although his family and close associates consistently downplayed claims of a serious condition.
A revered statesman and veteran opposition leader, Odinga was widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most influential and resilient political figures.
Known for his charisma and ability to mobilize massive public support, he contested the presidency five times but never clinched victory often alleging electoral malpractice in tightly contested polls.
