President William Ruto has declared a seven-day public holiday across Kenya to mourn the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, a revered political figure and long-time advocate of democracy and social justice.
In a national address delivered on Tuesday, President Ruto described Odinga’s passing as a profound loss to the nation, emphasizing his immense contributions to Kenya’s political development and unity.
The President announced that during the mourning period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country and at all Kenyan diplomatic missions abroad.
President Ruto also suspended all his public engagements in honor of Odinga’s memory, calling on Kenyans to use the period to reflect on the late leader’s enduring legacy.
“The nation mourns a statesman who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, equity, and democracy,” Ruto said, extending heartfelt condolences to the Odinga family and supporters.
Throughout the week, memorial services and tributes are expected to be held nationwide as citizens unite to celebrate the life and achievements of one of Kenya’s most influential political leaders.
