The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two former officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly impersonating the agency to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DSS confirmed that the duo who had earlier been flagged in separate public advisories were apprehended and will face prosecution.
According to the agency, the arrests followed persistent reports that the dismissed officers continued posing as active DSS operatives despite repeated warnings.
The DSS had earlier issued public alerts on October 8 concerning Barry Donald and on October 13 regarding Victor Onyedikachi Godwin.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting citizens from impostors, the Service said it would soon publish the names of other previously dismissed personnel to prevent similar fraudulent activities.
The agency further urged members of the public to verify all official engagements through its verified communication channels and to promptly report any suspicious individuals claiming to represent the DSS.
