The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to curb the vandalisation of railway infrastructure across the country.
The Corporation’s Police Command recently arrested one Musa Abdullahi, also known as Major, aged 32, a notorious receiver and kingpin involved in the theft and sale of vandalised railway materials, in Kaduna State.
According to reports, operatives of the Nigerian Police, Railway Command, apprehended the suspect around the Rigasa area of Kaduna, following intelligence reports on the vandalism of electrical installations along the Mando–Rigasa corridor on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue, with the case expected to be charged to court upon conclusion.
In a related development, the Railway Police Command in Plateau State intercepted a trailer loaded with large quantities of vandalised railway components along KM 822–823, Foromaxis, in the early hours of the same day. The truck was reportedly abandoned by its driver, who fled the scene. It was later towed to the Jos Railway Police Station on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, for further investigation.
The Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, commended the Nigerian Police for their professionalism, intelligence-led operations, and swift action in handling both incidents. He described the arrests and recovery as a clear demonstration of the strengthened collaboration between the Corporation and security agencies in safeguarding critical railway assets nationwide.
Dr. Opeifa reaffirmed the NRC’s commitment to working closely with the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security formations to ensure that vandals, receivers, and their collaborators are brought to justice.
He condemned the acts of vandalism as economic sabotage, stressing that the NRC maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward such crimes. He further emphasized the Corporation’s resolve to intensify surveillance, community engagement, and intelligence sharing in the protection of railway facilities.
Opeifa also appealed to residents of communities hosting railway infrastructure to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements around rail installations, noting that the railway system is a key driver of national development and its protection should be seen as a shared responsibility.
