President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has praised Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Lieutenant General George Jaffu, describing him as a distinguished professional capable of strengthening the nation’s security and stability.

Speaking at the official appointment and promotion ceremony held at his Page House residence in Mangochi on Friday, President Mutharika commended General Jaffu’s exemplary performance record and outstanding leadership qualities, noting that he has played a key role in modernising the MDF.

“With a distinguished career spanning several years, General Jaffu has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to upholding the core values of the Malawi Defence Force,” said President Mutharika.

“I have been following Jaffu’s career closely; his appointment is a testament to his credentials and exceptional leadership skills. I am proud of him.”

Prior to his appointment as General, Jaffu served as Deputy Commander of the Defence Force since May 2024.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Management from the University of Derby in the United Kingdom and has completed several military courses, including Joint Operations Planning and United Nations Military Observers Training.

In his remarks, General Jaffu expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to focus on improving the welfare of soldiers.

“One of my key priorities is to promote the welfare of our troops through the provision of standard accommodation and modern equipment,” he said.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the leadership of the Malawi Defence Force as General Jaffu assumes command with a vision to strengthen professionalism, discipline, and operational readiness within the military.
