The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ThankGod Chimenem, has called on Nigerian youths to steer clear of fraud and cyberattacks, warning that such acts threaten the nation’s identity and integrity.
Chimenem made the call on Friday during a cybersecurity summit held at the University of Abuja. The event, hosted by the Office of the NANS FCT Chairman, focused on strengthening youth participation in safeguarding Nigeria’s digital space.
In his address, the student leader urged young Nigerians to take the lead in securing the country’s digital future through innovation, responsibility, and heightened cyber awareness.
Delivering a paper titled “Securing Nigeria’s Digital Future: Youth Innovation and National Cyber Resilience,” Chimenem emphasized that the future of Nigeria’s technology sector depends on the creativity and ingenuity of its young population.
He noted that Nigeria’s rapid emergence as one of Africa’s leading digital economies presents both opportunities and risks. According to him, challenges such as cyberattacks, online fraud, and misinformation could undermine the nation’s progress if not tackled proactively.
Chimenem, therefore, encouraged students to embrace technology not only as users but also as innovators and protectors, ensuring that the country’s digital growth is anchored on integrity and national security.
