A major crisis is unfolding within the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the suspension of its National Vice Chairman (South-South) and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Usani Uguru Usani.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced after a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the ADC, Cross River State Chapter, held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
In a statement released Monday in Abuja and signed by one of the ADC State Publicity Secretaries, James Otudor, the party accused Usani of engaging in actions considered detrimental to the unity and progress of the ADC.
According to the statement, the SWC deliberated extensively on several petitions and reports alleging that Usani was involved in anti-party activities, insubordination to constituted authority, and conduct capable of undermining the image, cohesion, and electoral prospects of the party.
“In accordance with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures, Dr. Usani’s suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of a formal investigation by the relevant party organs,” the statement read.
The committee also expressed displeasure over the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, describing the process as lacking proper consultation with the state leadership.
It alleged that Ms. Wayas had not engaged with the Cross River State leadership since assuming office and accused her of actions perceived as being against the unity and growth of the ADC in the state.
“Consequently, the SWC urged the national leadership to review her appointment and replace her with a competent, credible, and media-savvy individual from Cross River State with a verifiable record of commitment to the ideals of the ADC,” the statement added.
