Governance in Osun State appears to be taking a family dimension as the state government has appointed global music icon, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State chapter, to his office.
He said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration was determined to transform Osun’s sports landscape and provide modern facilities that meet international standards.
Adewusi explained that the ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium would soon be completed, adding that the upgraded complex would meet Olympic specifications and host both national and international sporting events.
He said, “The government is committed to completing the Osogbo Township Stadium in record time. Once finished, it will be a world-class sporting facility capable of hosting major competitions.”
The deputy governor also revealed that the state government was at an advanced stage of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which would serve as a central agency for policy formulation, sports administration, and developmental planning.
According to him, the creation of the Sports Trust Fund now chaired by Davido would mobilise funds and support from individuals, corporate organisations, and sports philanthropists within and beyond the state.
“The Fund will provide a sustainable financial framework for sports development in Osun,” he said.
Adewusi noted that Davido accepted the appointment without hesitation, expressing his readiness to contribute to the transformation of the state’s sports ecosystem.
He expressed optimism that the singer’s influence, global recognition, and extensive network would help attract investment and elevate Osun’s sporting profile.
The Osun Sports Trust Fund is expected to drive infrastructural upgrades, athlete development, and youth engagement across the state aligning with the Adeleke administration’s broader vision of using sports as a catalyst for growth and empowerment.
