A 25-year-old man, identified as Hammed Usman Tunde, has been allegedly stabbed to death by his friend, Gafar, during a dispute reportedly over a girlfriend in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at the Oja Gboro area of Ilorin, when the two friends, said to be close companions, got into an argument while patronizing a Hausa sugarcane seller.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the heated exchange quickly turned violent, leading the 21-year-old suspect, Gafar, to allegedly stab Tunde in the chest with a knife.
The victim, a resident of Ile-Soro 2 in Oja Gboro, Isale Koko, was rushed to a nearby private hospital before being referred to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect, said to be a native of Ile Olowo in the same area, reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack. As of the time of filing this report, his whereabouts—and that of his family members—remain unknown.
Speaking to newsmen, the deceased’s sister described the incident as heartbreaking, calling on the Kwara State Government and relevant security agencies to ensure justice is served.
She described her late brother as a peaceful person who “never deserved to die in such a cruel manner.”
The remains of the deceased have since been laid to rest according to Islamic rites at the family house in Ile-Soro 2, Oja Gboro, Isale Koko, Ilorin.
