The Ondo State Government on Wednesday confirmed awareness of a leaked security alert memo issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) also known as the State Security Services (SSS) to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure, warning of a possible terrorist attack in parts of the state.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, the government clarified that the leaked document was part of routine intelligence sharing among security agencies and not an indication of an imminent attack.
Ajanaku explained that such intelligence reports are a normal part of ongoing security operations aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats.
“These intelligence reports often contain varying levels of threat assessment and are used to guide joint operations by security agencies,” he said. “They help enhance vigilance and enable proactive measures to ensure public safety.”
He assured residents that the government and relevant security agencies have already acted on the intelligence and taken necessary precautions to protect lives and property.
The commissioner also emphasized that coordination between the Ondo State Government and security agencies remains robust, with continuous efforts to sustain peace and stability across the state.
The statement urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security post. “We want to reassure our people that every possible measure is being taken to prevent any attack in Ondo State,” Ajanaku stated.
According to him, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains in constant communication with security agencies and has intensified measures to secure residents, particularly those in border communities.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining Ondo State’s reputation as one of the safest in Nigeria.
The government further appealed to citizens to go about their daily activities peacefully, refrain from taking laws into their own hands, and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information that could help prevent potential threats.
Recall that the DSS had raised an alarm over an alleged plot by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to launch coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo
