The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in collaboration with MTN Nigeria and powered by Africa’s Talking, has reintroduced the USSD short code *6820# to enhance access to timely support for survivors of abuse across the state.
With the dedicated code, MTN users can now discreetly report incidents of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, rape, and other related offences directly from their mobile phones. By dialling *6820#, individuals are guided through a simple, step-by-step process to request immediate assistance, report cases, and connect to DSVA’s comprehensive survivor-focused services.
These services include medical care, psychosocial support, counselling, legal aid, empowerment opportunities, and access to safe shelters.
The platform is inclusive and user-friendly, requiring no airtime or internet access, ensuring that every resident regardless of location or circumstance can access help when needed.
The reintroduction of *6820# complements DSVA’s existing 24-hour toll-free helpline (0-8000-333-333), further expanding reporting channels for survivors and concerned citizens.
According to the agency, the initiative underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to leveraging technology to protect residents, promote accountability, and strengthen its zero-tolerance stance against all forms of abuse.
