The Oyo State Government has debunked a viral social media post alleging that residents would be taxed for social activities such as burials, naming ceremonies, and weddings.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government described the post as false and mischievous, saying it was created to malign the image of the present administration.
Oyelade clarified that any official tax schedule from the government would include a Revenue Code for payment and bear the signature of the Chairman of the Oyo State Internal Revenue Board.
He urged members of the public to disregard the false information, adding that as the next elections approach, some individuals may resort to spreading misinformation to discredit the remarkable achievements recorded by Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration over the past seven years.
