The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims by the Party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alleging that his signature was forged on a letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the forthcoming 2025 Elective National Convention.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT described the allegation as “baseless, misleading, and reprehensible,” noting that it contradicts verifiable records and established party procedures.
According to the BoT, the INEC notification letter in question was jointly signed by the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and Senator Anyanwu on August 25, 2025, during the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP.
The signing, the statement said, was conducted in the presence of members of key party organs, including the PDP Governors’ Forum, the BoT, and other NEC members.
The BoT further revealed that Senator Anyanwu was subsequently inaugurated as Secretary of the Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention. In that role, he co-signed official communications with the sub-committee chairman, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, and personally signed a letter requesting financial approval for the sub-committee’s inaugural meeting.
“These correspondences, bearing Senator Anyanwu’s signature, are in the custody of the Party and relevant Convention Committees,” the BoT stated. “In view of these incontrovertible facts, his claim of forgery can only be seen as an attempt to discredit the Party’s leadership and misinform the public.”
Reaffirming the Party’s unity and commitment to democratic principles, the BoT assured members that preparations for the PDP 2025 Elective National Convention, scheduled to hold from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, remain on course.
“The forthcoming convention will be a credible and unifying exercise, reflective of the PDP’s long-standing tradition of internal democracy,” the statement added.
The BoT urged members, stakeholders, and supporters of the PDP to disregard Senator Anyanwu’s allegations and remain steadfast in their support for the Party’s leadership and vision for Nigeria’s democratic renewal.
