Lagos Police Command Mourns Death of CSP Matilda Ngbaronye |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Police Command is mourning the death of one of its most admired officers, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, who passed away on Thursday during an operation at a hospital in Surulere, Lagos.

Until her death, CSP Ngbaronye served as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, where she was widely respected for her professionalism, compassion, and firm commitment to justice.

Fondly remembered for her warmth and exemplary human and media relations, the late officer had previously served as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPRO) in Lagos. During her tenure, she earned widespread admiration for her eloquence, poise, and deep understanding of the public’s right to information.

Since the news of her passing broke, tributes have poured in from colleagues, friends, and admirers across social media, describing her as “a shining example of a modern police officer” who believed in balancing law enforcement with empathy and respect for human rights.

Her death has plunged the Lagos Police Command into mourning, with many officers describing her as “a rare gem who combined intelligence, grace, and humility in service.”

In an official statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command described CSP Ngbaronye as an “upright and dedicated officer” whose career was marked by professionalism, discipline, and integrity.

“Until her passing, she was known for her diligence and commitment to duty. Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served,”
the statement read.

The news of her death was received with deep shock across the Command. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunnare Jimoh, on behalf of all officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command, extended heartfelt condolences to CSP Ngbaronye’s family, including her husband, elder brother (a priest), and her aged mother.

CP Jimoh also personally reached out to the family to offer the Command’s support during what he described as “a painful and irreparable loss.”

The Command added that burial arrangements for the late officer will be announced in due course.

CSP Matilda Ngbaronye was widely respected within the Force and her community for her sense of duty, fairness, and compassion in service.

“The Command mourns the loss of a truly exemplary officer,”
SP Adebisi concluded.
“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
