The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to relocating the popular Computer Village in Ikeja to the newly designated ICT and Business Park in Katangowa, Agbado-Oke-Odo, assuring stakeholders that the long-awaited move will soon become a reality.
This assurance was given by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, during a stakeholders’ meeting held recently in Alausa.
Arc. Oki stated that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remained determined to complete the relocation process and bring an end to years of unsuccessful attempts.
“The current site, originally a residential area, has been adversely affected by unplanned development, displacing many residents,” Oki explained.
He added that the governor, in line with his vision for sustainable urban development, had directed that the new ICT and Business Park be developed to international standards to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for all stakeholders.
According to him, the 15-hectare Katangowa site will feature modern facilities, including trailer parks, hotels, banks, a police station, a fire station, and other community amenities.
The Permanent Secretary urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the project developer to ensure an orderly relocation to the well-planned environment.
In her remarks, Mrs. Abisola Azeez, the Iya Oloja of Computer Village, expressed satisfaction after the briefing, saying her initial fears had been allayed.
“All my fears have been allayed. I urge the developer to adhere strictly to design specifications and timelines so that the relocation can be completed in its entirety,” she said.
Also speaking, the project developer, Mr. Sam Ajose, appreciated the Lagos State Government and market stakeholders for their cooperation, revealing that a flexible payment plan would be introduced to ease the transition for traders.
