The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a ₦50 million support package for the Super Falcons of Nigeria ahead of their second-leg 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic.
Governor Abiodun made the announcement on Tuesday when he hosted the nine-time African champions at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He lauded the team for their resilience, teamwork, and consistency in flying Nigeria’s flag high on the continent.
“Their return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium is a validation that we are doing something right in Ogun State,” Abiodun said.
“Beyond hosting matches, we are transforming the stadium environment with plans for a world-class sports hub complete with a five-star hotel, cinema, shopping complex, and other facilities that will make Abeokuta a true sports and tourism destination.”
The governor also commended the Falcons for clinching their record tenth WAFCON title in Morocco, describing their triumph as “a victory that lifted the spirit of our nation.”
“What they represent goes far beyond football they embody leadership, teamwork, and discipline. Through their example, millions of young women are learning that excellence knows no gender, and that with hard work and unity, they too can break barriers and achieve greatness,” he added.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development and assured the Falcons of Ogun State’s unwavering support.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Ogun State, we stand firmly with the Super Falcons as they continue to make Nigeria proud,” he concluded.
