President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting the screening and confirmation of the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other Service Chiefs.
The President’s request was contained in a letter read on Tuesday by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.
According to the letter, the nominees are: Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye.
Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nominations to the Senate Committee of the Whole for screening and subsequent confirmation, scheduled for next week.
The development comes after a major shake-up in the military hierarchy a few days ago, in which President Tinubu relieved General Christopher Musa of his duties and appointed General Olufemi Oluyede, a former Chief of Army Staff, as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
