Nigeria Police Force Set to Celebrate 70 Years of Women in Policing |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM has announced plans to commemorate 70 years of women in policing a landmark celebration honouring seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedicated service since the enlistment of the first female police officers in 1955.

According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the two-day celebration is scheduled to hold from December 3 to 4, 2025, with both serving and retired female police officers expected to participate in the historic event.

The Inspector-General commended the contributions of women to the operational success and public image of the Force, describing their service as a testament to integrity, empathy, and excellence.

He noted that female officers have played vital roles in law enforcement from administration and investigations to tactical operations and leadership significantly shaping the evolution of policing in Nigeria.

“Over the past seven decades, women of the Nigeria Police Force have continued to demonstrate courage and professionalism, redefining policing with compassion and purpose,” the IGP stated.

Activities lined up for the anniversary include a national lecture, a historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme. These events are designed to highlight the achievements of women in the Force while reinforcing the IGP’s commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development.

The statement further extended appreciation to all female officers, both serving and retired, whose courage and dedication have brought pride to the institution and the nation at large.
