Ogun Citizen Urges Governor Abiodun to Address Deteriorating Roads, Media Conduct|LAGOS EYE NEWS

A concerned Ogun State citizen, Olanrewaju R. Adebayo, has written an open letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun, calling for urgent attention to the deplorable condition of roads across the state and a review of the conduct of the governor’s media team.

In the letter titled “An Open Letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun,” Adebayo described his message as one driven by “patriotic urgency rather than partisan interest.” He appealed to the governor to take decisive action to improve the state’s infrastructure and re-evaluate his communication strategy.

Roads in “Ruin”

Adebayo lamented what he described as the “ruinous state of roads” in various parts of Ogun State, from the capital city of Abeokuta to border communities.

He noted that residents, including traders, motorists, students, and pregnant women, face daily hazards due to bad roads that have turned into “chambers of risk.”

“Thirty-odd months of rain, cargo trucks, commuters, and still, we stare at tarmac turning back into mud. This is not legacy; it is neglect,” he wrote.

Criticism of Media Operations

The letter also faulted the approach of the governor’s media team, accusing them of prioritizing propaganda over performance. Adebayo alleged that some aides engage in online confrontations with citizens instead of addressing governance issues.

“Governors aren’t served by armies of trolls; they’re served by deliverers of results. Every abusive comment is a drip in the dignity of your office,” he said.

He urged the governor to reform his communication team, stressing that “governance does not grow from hashtags, it blooms in highway ribbons.”

The writer further challenged the government to match its reported achievements with visible impact.

According to him, public claims of rehabilitating “1,200 kilometres of roads” contrast with the experiences of many residents who continue to suffer from bad roads and vehicle damage.

He called on Governor Abiodun to order a statewide road audit, publish progress reports, and launch a 500-kilometre emergency reconstruction plan focusing on industrial and border areas.

Adebayo also recommended the establishment of community oversight committees to monitor road projects and ensure transparency.

Concluding his letter, Adebayo urged the governor to prioritise tangible governance over image management.

“Your legacy is not built in studios or spin rooms; it is laid in concrete and asphalt,” he stated.

“Draft a new chapter where roads connect lives, not break them.”
