In a bid to regularise building developments across the state, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a three-month amnesty for owners of existing structures erected without the required planning permits.
The initiative, which takes effect from November 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026, offers property owners a 50 per cent rebate on the standard penal fees for securing their permits.
The amnesty covers residential, commercial, industrial, and other types of developments.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL Olatunji Odunlami, the gesture is a year-end concession aimed at encouraging property owners to comply with the state’s urban planning regulations.
Ordinarily, defaulters are required to pay a penalty double the planning permit fee for commercial and industrial buildings, and an additional full fee for residential properties. However, the new policy temporarily reduces these penalties by half.
The government has directed affected individuals and corporate organisations to visit the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority headquarters or any of its 32 Zonal Planning Offices across the state for clarification and to commence the regularisation process.
