A car belonging to a leading politician from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) went up in flames on Monday outside the lawmaker’s house in the northern city of Hamburg.
The burnt-out car belonged to Bernd Baumann, the AfD’s parliamentary secretary in the Bundestag, the lower house of parliament.
A police spokesman said the incident is being investigated as suspected arson.
Baumann’s office said he was woken up by security service shortly after the incident, which occurred around 3:20 am (0220 GMT).
A video provided by the Baumann’s office showed three burnt-out cars and a fourth car with clear signs of fire damage.
Police had earlier reported several burning cars in the Othmarschen district in western Hamburg.
One car was allegedly set on fire early in the morning. The fire then spread to three nearby cars before being extinguished by firefighters.
