The Ghana Navy has arrested ten Nigerian nationals found aboard a Panamanian vessel, MV Grand Venus, at Tema Port, Ghana’s main seaport.
According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, the arrest took place about eight nautical miles off the coast of Tema after the ship sent a distress signal.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly boarded the vessel clandestinely while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria.
Following the interception, the Navy escorted the ship to the Tema Harbour, located approximately 25 kilometres east of Accra, where the suspects were handed over to the Port Control, Ghana Immigration Service, and Marine Police for further screening.
The Ghana Armed Forces noted that additional details would be released as investigations progress.
