United States Senator Ted Cruz has reaffirmed his push for legislation to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) and to impose sanctions on Nigerian officials allegedly responsible for religious persecution.
In a viral video shared on his X handle on Wednesday, Senator Cruz commended former President Donald Trump for his administration’s efforts in addressing the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
“I’ve been pushing legislation to designate Nigeria a CPC and to impose sanctions on the Nigerian officials responsible,” Cruz stated.
He added: “Thank you to President Trump for his leadership in imposing the designation, and more broadly, for fighting to stop the murder of Christians in Nigeria.”
The U.S. lawmaker further hinted at plans to name specific Nigerian officials in the coming weeks.
“Now we should take the next step and hold Nigerian officials accountable. I intend to be very explicit about who they are in the coming days and weeks,” he said.
