Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charlie Boy or Area Fada, has written an emotional open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing deep frustration over the growing insecurity and killings across the country.
In the letter, which he personally addressed to the President and referred to him as “Jagaban,” Charlie Boy lamented the deteriorating state of the nation, saying Nigerians, particularly the youths, deserve a new and better Nigeria.
He wrote, “I don yab you, I don tire. If I ever insult you, please forgive me. I am only a frustrated Nigerian who believes we can do way better than we are doing presently because the youths of this country deserve a new Nigeria of their dreams.”
The social critic decried the endless cries and protests of Nigerians that have gone unheard over the years, accusing the government of prioritizing the comfort of the elite over the suffering of ordinary citizens.
“Our voices don disappear inside government office like smoke. Our children dey die for their mama hand, our men dey miss for road wey no get end. The rate wey men dey take die these days dey fear me,” he lamented.
Charlie Boy further criticized the government’s slow response to national crises, referencing how a recent comment from the American President drew global attention to Nigeria’s insecurity.
“So na until weree Trump use him microphone talk our pain before e get value? Mr President, I dey ask you, you go finally act now or you go still wait till another tragedy trend before una remember say Nigerians dey alive?” he asked.
The activist insisted that the crisis was not a religious issue but one rooted in inequality and poor governance, stating that Nigeria was “bleeding from every corner.”
He continued, “North dey cry, South dey hungry, East and West no better pass. Everywhere dey choke. Some people never chop for days. Families dey run from home just to stay alive.”
Charlie Boy called for urgent action from the President, saying leadership should prioritize the protection of lives rather than issuing statements.
“Mr President, the thing don pass shame, e don turn tragedy. Water don pass Garri. Nigeria don sawa. Life suppose get value again for this country. We don watch, we don pray, but this time we dey demand,” he declared.
He ended his message with a strong call to action: “Mr President, the time to act no be tomorrow, no be next week, na now. No be you be Jagaban?”
