The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed that no Nigerian is being persecuted for their faith, emphasizing that the nation’s primary challenge remains terrorism a global menace requiring collective international response.
General Oluyede made the remark while addressing the outcome of the Joint Security and Intelligence Chiefs Meeting convened by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, in Abuja on Thursday.
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently strengthened the country’s security framework by appointing experienced officers with proven integrity and expertise in asymmetric warfare.
“And you will recall recently, that’s just last week, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recalibrated the security architecture of the country by bringing on board officers of proven integrity who are seasoned in asymmetric warfare to add impetus to our operations,” General Oluyede stated.
He reiterated that terrorism remains a global concern and called for continued international cooperation to end the scourge.
“Terrorism is a global issue. Nigeria welcomes all nations willing to support our collective fight to end it,” he said.
The Chief of Defence Staff further assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces and the Intelligence Community remain united, proactive, and resolute in defending every citizen and part of the country.
Also in attendance at the meeting were the Service Chiefs of all military branches, the Director of Military Intelligence, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Inspector-General of Police.
