The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his commitment to upholding due process in the resolution of land ownership disputes in Abuja, emphasizing that he will continue to respect all government institutions, including the military.
Addressing journalists on the recent clash between FCT officials and some military personnel, Wike urged Nigerians to obey the law, warning that the government would not tolerate any attempt to undermine approved land allocations.
The minister explained that the confrontation occurred after some FCT officials were allegedly assaulted while enforcing development control regulations at a disputed site.
Wike stated that his intervention followed reports that top officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) were attacked while carrying out their lawful duties.
“As a Minister, I will not sit in my office and watch those working with me being assaulted. I had to personally intervene to restore order and ensure that government directives were respected,” he said.
He clarified that the contentious land was duly allocated to Santos Estate Limited for park and recreational purposes, not for residential development.
Wike further recalled a similar incident involving the Nigeria Police Force, noting that he had personally visited a site where buildings were being erected under a power line. According to him, the Inspector-General of Police later ensured that construction at the location was halted.
The minister reaffirmed that his administration would continue to enforce Abuja’s master plan and ensure that all development activities comply with approved regulations.
