The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs has screened 38 nominees forwarded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as Chairman and Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
Mrs. Ayo Omidiran, from Osun State, appeared before the committee as the nominee for Chairman of the Commission.
During the screening exercise, lawmakers charged the nominees to uphold the principles of fairness, equity and inclusiveness in federal appointments and the distribution of national resources.
As part of due diligence, the committee examined the nominees’ security clearances as well as the verification of their asset declarations.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character, Senator Allwell Onyeonwu Onyeosoh, urged the nominees to champion federal character principles and help strengthen national cohesion by ensuring balanced representation across Nigeria’s diverse population.
