Gunmen launched a deadly attack on Gidan Waya in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State on the night of 11 November 2025, killing four residents and abducting 12 others, including minors aged 13, 14 and 15.

Local sources say the armed men stormed the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically before seizing the victims and fleeing into surrounding bushland.

The incident has heightened fear among villagers and intensified calls for urgent government intervention.

Human rights advocates have condemned the attack, describing it as yet another failure of authorities to protect citizens from escalating violence across northern Nigeria.

Amnesty International noted that the incident reflects the persistent lack of accountability for human rights abuses in the region.

Since 2016, several rural communities in northern Nigeria have lived under constant threat from armed groups. The surge in violence has displaced countless families and forced many farmers to abandon their lands.

Amnesty International has continued to document a rising pattern of attacks and abductions across the northwest and north-central zones. The organisation identified Plateau, Zamfara, southern Kaduna, Benue and Katsina as among the worst-hit areas.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the latest attack. However, residents are urging the government to take immediate action to secure the release of the abducted individuals and restore safety to the region.
