Kwara Govt lists new projects, policies in Education Sector |LAGOS EYE NEWS


Kwara State Government has prioritised educational sustainability in the education sector, while introducing peptalks in all schools, a programme designed to address a uniform moral theme each day across the schools in the state, with the aim of fostering discipline, integrity and good character among students

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, stated this today during the 3rd quarter 2025 Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the State Ministry of Communications at the conference room of Ministry of Finance, Ilorin.

The Commissioner said the state government has embarked on massive infrastructural development in the 3rd quarter of the year in the numerous schools and the projects have been completed and handed over to the communities across the three Senitorial Districts of the state, including the handover of Prototype School at Adewole, Ilorin; Olokuta Senior Secondary School, Anfeyinoja; and construction of a new block consisting of three classrooms with an office and furniture, along with a two-room toilet facility and a motorised borehole powered by a generator.

Dr Olohungbebe added that Mount Carmel Junior Secondary School, Ilorin has received three newly built classrooms, an office, toilet facilities and a motorised borehole to improve water access within the school premises; an examination hall, a two-room toilet facility and a motorised borehole were constructed at Ansarul-Islam Secondary School, Osi; Senior Secondary School, Gbagba benefited from the completion of a new examination hall to support large-scale student assessments, among others.

On policy reforms, the Commissioner stated that the state government sponsored new policy reforms to align with global best practices and engaged the Stakeholders with Education Management Information System (EMIS) officials on the Annual School Census, explaining that it also partnered with different Non-Governmental Organisations for training staff and teachers across the state on digital to ensure effective discharge of their duties.

He disclosed that the state government introduced Tripartite Committee which includes the Ministry, Kwara State Teaching Service Commission and State Primary Education Board to monitor students and teachers’ activities in the schools across the state.

Dr Olohungbebe noted that the huge investment of the present administration in the education sector is yielding positive results, as reflected in the participation of Kwara students in the Genius Illumina Project Exhibition held in Lagos, where the finalists will represent Nigeria in the United States of America, further highlighting that Kwara students participated in the 2025 President’s Debate in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where they emerged champions, and both the winning students and their tutors were rewarded with ₦7 million.

The Commissioner revealed that the online registration of Common Entrance (placement examination) introduced by the state government yielded positive results in the recent placement results, saying a great improvement is also recorded in students’ overall performance in both BECE Examinations.

Dr Olohungbebe affirmed that the Agency for Mass Education (AME) organised training of 25 facilitators by the National Commission for Mass Literacy Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) on modern pedagogy for out-of-school children and LOIB Empowerment Initiative trained and supported three outstanding young women in vocational skills.

Speaking on Kwara State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, the Commissioner said the project seeks to improve secondary education opportunities among adolescent girls in targeted areas, noting that the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, facilitated the project to the state to improve secondary education opportunities by tackling these challenges, making education more appealing to adolescent girls, parents, communities and institutions.

Dr Olohungbebe pointed out that AGILE organised a 3-Day workshop for 193 health care workers across the 193 wards, 32 representatives of security agencies and 29 service providers on the development and validation of School-Related Gender Based Violence (SRGBV) as well as trained over 5000 School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) members on the development of School Improvement Plans (SIPs) and review of the adopted policy on the domestication of National Gender Policy in Education(NGPE).

The Commissioner said a 4-Day Step-Down training for additional 140 trainers under digital literacy subcomponent was organised; digital skills training manuals were produced for students; digital literacy training manuals were also transcribed to Braille for vision-impaired students; and sensitisation was carried out on Girls Scholarship programme across the 3 Senatorial Districts, among others.
