Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
Malami made the declaration during an interview with DCL Hausa on Monday, stating that he enjoys wide support across the state ahead of the poll.
“INEC guidelines do not allow us to begin any form of mobilisation yet, but I assure you that when the time comes, you will see that we have the support of the people of Kebbi State,” he said.
He added that his decision to join the race was final. “I have agreed to a contest, and there is no retreat. God willing, we are going to win because we have people who believe in us, and we will not let them down.”
The former AGF also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of subjecting Nigerians—particularly those in the northern region—to economic hardship.
Malami’s declaration positions him among the early contenders eyeing the state’s top seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
