Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose have engaged in a fresh verbal exchange following Obasanjo’s attendance at Fayose’s recent birthday celebration.
A message described as a “thank you letter,” sent by Fayose via SMS, was released to journalists in Abeokuta on Monday by Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.
In the message, Fayose expressed appreciation for Obasanjo’s presence at the event but sharply criticised remarks allegedly made by the former President.
The message, which contained strong language, accused Obasanjo of making “irresponsible comments” and suggested that the former President had “lost [his] sanity.”
Fayose also alleged that Obasanjo had received money from him, referencing the claim in his message and demanding a refund.
He further stated that he maintained his calm at the event “so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man.”
Responding tersely, Obasanjo thanked Fayose for the message, saying it “undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable.”
He denied opening the money allegedly sent to him, adding that it had been returned through the same courier, Foluso Adeagbo.
“Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it and in the same bag as he brought it unopened by me,” Obasanjo stated.
The exchange, now public, has stirred renewed attention to the long-running tensions between the two political figures.
