Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) belongs to Nigerians and not to any single individual.
He made the remarks in Abuja while reacting to the police blockade of the PDP National Secretariat.
Governor Mohammed faulted the development, warning that PDP governors will not stand by and allow the party to be undermined by individuals who, according to him, “neither understand its history nor respect its future.”
He pledged the full support of the PDP Governors’ Forum to work with the newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) to defend the party’s headquarters and uphold internal democracy.
He emphasized that the party would confront any form of sabotage with unity, strategy, and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
“The PDP will not be cowed, harassed, or silenced,” he insisted. “This party has survived tougher battles, and we will emerge from this moment stronger, more united, and more determined.”
Governor Mohammed also cautioned the Presidency against empowering individuals who he said lack character and democratic values. He criticized those who use state power to settle internal political scores, stressing that such actions undermine democratic institutions and do not serve the interest of Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the new National Chairman of the PDP, Tanimu Turaki, has called on the international community to intervene to protect Nigeria’s democracy, which he said is at risk under the APC-led federal government.
Turaki urged the Presidency and relevant national institutions to immediately address what he described as an abuse of power. According to him, democracy cannot thrive in an environment where political intimidation becomes routine.
