The leadership tussle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Tuesday as the faction led by Abdulrahaman Mohammed took control of the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, ahead of the 103rd meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Our correspondent, Timothy Yusuf, reports that the PDP headquarters and its surroundings have been heavily secured, with security operatives stationed at strategic points to maintain order.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Abdulrahman-led faction, stated that the deployment of security personnel was necessary to forestall any breakdown of law and order amid the ongoing leadership dispute.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) had yet to arrive at the party secretariat for its own scheduled meeting, further underscoring the deepening division within the party’s leadership structure.
