Tanzanian President Appoints Daughter and Son-in-Law to Key Cabinet Positions |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has sparked national debate after appointing her daughter and her son-in-law to senior government positions in her new cabinet, The Star reports.

In the latest reshuffle, President Samia named Wanu Hafidh Ameir, her daughter, as Deputy Minister of Education, placing her at the centre of the country’s education reforms. At the same time, she appointed Mohamed Mchengerwa, Wanu’s husband, as Minister of Health, giving him oversight of one of Tanzania’s most critical ministries.

The appointments come as the President reorganises her administration ahead of major policy rollouts. While supporters argue that the two have long served in public roles and bring experience to their portfolios, critics say the move raises concerns about the growing influence of close family members in government.

Both Wanu and Mchengerwa have previously held political roles, but their elevation to strategically important ministries has intensified discussion around governance, merit, and transparency within the country’s political space.
