…Terrorism cannot be a part of our normal lives says Don Jazzy
Amnesty International has strongly condemned the attack carried out by armed men on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke-Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Recall, the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, left three people dead, while several worshippers were abducted.
In a statement on Wednesday, the global human-rights organisation described the incident as yet another reflection of the alarming escalation of violent attacks, abductions for ransom, and frequent killings across the country. It warned that the rising insecurity has left many Nigerians feeling increasingly unsafe.
“The time to end this impunity is now. The perpetrators must be brought to justice,” the statement read.
Amnesty International noted that rural communities in northern Nigeria remain particularly vulnerable, living “perpetually on the edge,” with little hope of protection or justice. It added that the incessant killings and the failure of authorities to arrest and prosecute suspects continue to pose a severe threat to the right to life in Nigeria.
Reacting to the attack, Nigerian music producer Don Jazzy expressed shock and frustration over the worsening security situation, saying:
“…It wasn’t always like this. Terrorism cannot be a part of our normal lives. Where are they appearing from and disappearing to? Where is the intelligence? This needs to end now, Sir…”
Also responding, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of COZA, lamented that the attack occurred in his hometown.
“I just heard of the killings in my hometown Eruku in Kwara State. This is very painful and saddening. We will not tolerate the inhumane killings of Christians or any human. May God have mercy and protect us all,” he said.
