The Kwara State Government has introduced heightened security measures across schools in several parts of the state as part of broader efforts to ensure the safety of schoolchildren.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe.
According to the statement, the new security directives take immediate effect in schools located in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin and Oke Ero Local Government Areas.
Dr. Olohungbebe said the move underscores the government’s determination to curb the activities of kidnappers who may attempt to use schoolchildren as shields in response to intensified security operations in the region.
He added that boarding schools in Irepodun LGA, which could be attractive targets for fleeing criminal elements, are also covered by the enhanced protective measures.
The commissioner noted that the restrictions will remain in force pending further security assessments and clearance for normal academic activities to resume.
