President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following renewed security concerns arising from the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and an attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Tuesday said the President was expected to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Summit of Leaders in South Africa and later proceed to Angola for the 7th AU-EU Summit.
However, sources at the Presidency confirmed that Tinubu suspended his departure after receiving reports of the deteriorating security situations.
In response to an appeal from the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu ordered an immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area.
He further directed the Nigeria Police Force to intensify operations and pursue the bandits responsible for the attack on worshippers.
The President is also awaiting comprehensive briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima who visited Kebbi State on his behalf—as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) on both incidents.
Tinubu reaffirmed his directive to all security agencies to spare no effort in rescuing the 24 abducted schoolgirls and ensuring their safe return to their families.
