Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Segun Awolowo Jr., describing it as a profound personal loss.
He called the former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council a gentleman of exceptional character, a courageous voice, and an exemplary public servant whose death at 62 came as a shock.
In a statement released on Thursday, the governor reflected on Awolowo’s intelligence, calm nature, and warm personality, noting that he touched many lives with grace and left memories that will be cherished.
He highlighted his remarkable journey from early legal practice to key roles under Presidents Obasanjo and Yar’Adua, and later his unblemished tenure at NEPC, culminating in his unanimous election as President of ECOWAS Trade Promotion Organisations.
Governor Abiodun said Awolowo’s life, though brief, was impactful and inspiring.
He extended condolences to his wife, children, the Awolowo family, and all Nigerians, praying for his soul to rest in perfect peace.
