Kwara State security operatives have recorded significant breakthroughs in ongoing efforts to dismantle resurgent banditry and kidnapping networks across the state.
Barely hours after the interception of an arms courier and the recovery of 100 rounds of live ammunition along the Gbugbu–Pategi Road on Friday, another major arrest has been made—this time in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, acting on actionable intelligence from the Oro-Ago community on Friday, December 3, apprehended one Aliu Abubakar at the Oro-Ago Motor Park. The development comes shortly after the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested a medical doctor alleged to be supplying drugs and medical support to kidnapping gangs operating in the state.
According to police sources, the suspect initially claimed he was travelling to meet an uncle identified as Zarumi. However, his conduct raised suspicion, prompting a deeper investigation.
Digital evidence retrieved from his mobile phone reportedly showed the suspect brandishing an AK-47 rifle, alongside images of allies identified as Buba, Auta, and Bello ‘Smally’, all posing with similar prohibited weapons. Additional images showed the suspect flaunting large sums of cash, which he confessed were proceeds from multiple kidnapping operations carried out by his syndicate.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is said to be providing useful intelligence to aid ongoing counter-kidnapping operations across Kwara State.
