Seven governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have stepped down following a crucial meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
The aspirants agreed to rally behind Bola Oyebamiji, who has now emerged as the consensus governorship candidate ahead of the party’s forthcoming primary election.
The high-level meeting, convened by President Tinubu himself, was aimed at resolving internal conflicts and unifying the party ahead of the polls. However, one of the aspirants, Iyiola Omisore, was noticeably absent. Omisore had earlier condemned his disqualification from the primary, dismissing it as “a joke.”
Those who withdrew from the race in support of Oyebamiji are former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh.
Recall, the party elected one thousand six hundred and sixty (1,660) delegates for the exercise.
Announcing the outcome at the party secretariat in Osogbo after the exercise held across the 332 wards, the Chairman of the Osun State Gubernatorial Congress Delegate Committee, Engr.
Shehu Dange confirmed that five delegates were elected in each of the state’s 332 wards.
Does Oyebamiji’s new backing guarantee victory, or is the real contest just beginning? Drop your views in the comment section.
