The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and its French counterpart, the Direction Générale des Finances Publiques (DGFP), on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation and advancing efficient tax administration between both countries.
The agreement, sealed at the French Embassy in Abuja, comes as FIRS prepares to transition into the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) next month.
FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, who signed on behalf of Nigeria, said the partnership underscores the commitment of both countries to building stronger, more resilient, and future-driven tax institutions.
“This event reflects a shared commitment to developing tax administrations that are stronger, more resilient, and more forward-looking,” Adedeji said.
French Ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, signed on behalf of DGFP and highlighted the importance of deepened collaboration between the two nations.
In a statement issued by Adedeji’s Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, digital transformation was identified as a key area of cooperation, with Nigeria set to benefit from France’s advanced technology deployment in compliance management, taxpayer services, and data-driven enforcement.
According to Adedeji, France will also gain from Nigeria’s rapid digital expansion, agile adoption of emerging tools, and innovative solutions tailored to its fast-growing, tech-driven population.
He added that Nigeria will continue to engage more global partners as part of a deliberate strategy to modernise its tax system, noting that the collaboration with France will allow both institutions to exchange ideas, share innovations, and learn from each other’s experiences.
