Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday clinched the Accord Party’s ticket for the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke, the sole aspirant in the primary held in Osogbo, scored 145 of the 150 delegate votes, with five ballots declared invalid.
Announcing the result, Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, declared him winner after voting, counting, and confirmation by INEC officials and party agents.
Adeleke, his deputy Kola Adewusi, and several appointees were present at the venue, which had heavy security including police and DSS operatives. INEC officials also monitored the exercise.
Key PDP figures, including State Chairman Sunday Bisi, Speaker Wale Egbedun, and state and federal lawmakers, were notably absent.
The Accord Party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, led the party leadership to the primary.
Adeleke, who announced his defection to Accord on Tuesday, said he joined the party on November 6 to pursue his second-term bid. He added that Accord’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his agenda on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
