Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after collapsing inside the Government House, Yenagoa.
The incident occurred in the afternoon and was described by sources as “serious,” though the cause of the sudden collapse has not yet been determined.
A source told Lagos Eye News that the deputy governor was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, for emergency treatment. This could not be independently confirmed, as the hospital’s spokesperson, Ben Akpedi, did not respond to calls and messages seeking clarification.
When contacted, the Deputy Governor’s media aide, Doubara Atasi, confirmed the development but refused to provide further details. Asked specifically to verify the incident, he simply replied, “Yes,” before ending the call.
The collapse comes just weeks after Ewhrudjakpo was noticeably absent during Governor Douye Diri’s announcement of his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in October.
Details surrounding the deputy governor’s condition remain unclear at the time of filing this report.
