Former Anambra State governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been arrested in Abuja and is currently being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The development was confirmed Wednesday night through a statement issued by his former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe, and made available to newsmen.
Chukwulobe also debunked circulating rumours claiming the former minister had been kidnapped.
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later,” the statement read.
Ngige has been in the news recently following an attack on his convoy by armed men in Anambra State, though he was not in the vehicle during the incident.
His arrest has stirred widespread reactions, with many Nigerians awaiting further information on the circumstances surrounding his detention and what charges, if any, may be brought against him.
