Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group, has accused the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, of corruption over alleged foreign school fees paid for his children.
Dangote made the allegation on Sunday during a media briefing at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki, Lagos.
He claimed that Ahmed spent about $5 million on six years of secondary education for his four children in Switzerland, an amount he said was inconsistent with the income of a public office holder.
According to Dangote, the allegation raises serious concerns about accountability and asset declaration within the public service.
He called on the Code of Conduct Bureau and other relevant anti-corruption agencies to investigate the matter.
Dangote further stated that if the allegation is denied, he would pursue legal action to compel the Swiss schools allegedly attended by Ahmed’s children to disclose the fees paid.
As of the time of filing this report, Farouk Ahmed had not responded to the allegation.
