At least two people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a Dangote SINO truck, three tricycles, and a commercial minibus (popularly known as Korope) in the Iyana Meiran area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed the incident in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday. According to the agency, the identities of the deceased victims are yet to be ascertained.
LASTMA said several other victims sustained injuries and were promptly evacuated to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
The statement read:
“There’s a report of a fatal road crash involving a Dangote SINO truck, three tricycles and a mini bus (Korope) at Iyana Meiran inward Meiran Road by PHC.
Safety cones have been placed around the scene, and police officers are on ground. Two fatalities recorded, while casualties have been taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention.”
Security personnel and traffic officials were deployed to the scene to secure the area and manage traffic flow.
Meanwhile, it had earlier reported separate fatal crashes in Lagos, which claimed two lives and left two others critically injured in the early hours of Monday. LASTMA said one of the accidents occurred at about 2:30 a.m. at Otedola Bridge, inward Berger, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to the agency, an unregistered vehicle, allegedly driven at high speed, rammed into a moving trailer, killing both occupants instantly. The trailer driver was said to have fled the scene with the vehicle.
LASTMA has once again warned motorists to desist from reckless driving and excessive speeding, especially during late-night and early-morning hours, to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
